Michelle writes about the horrors of domestic violence from the perspective of the survivor. What sets this book apart is that not only is Michelle a survivor, but she is a survivor who, when she finally went for help, had to ask her victimizers’ friends and co-workers for that help. Her Believable Lies is the story not only of a woman abused, but also of a woman who had to fight ‘the system’ in order to get help. Michelle chronicles her story in a way that allows the reader, through italicized interjections throughout the book, to hear what she was thinking at the time. Quite simply, yet eloquently, Michelle has written a book that allows readers to get inside the head of an abused person in order to hear her thoughts.

Her Believable Lies is a must read for anyone in an abusive relationship, or for anyone who knows of, or is helping, someone is such a relationship. Finally, as this book clearly demonstrates the need for transparency, and accountability, within human service systems, by demonstrating how terribly things can go wrong, this book is a must read for everyone in the helping professions who may come into contact with abused individuals.
